TWITTER & MICROBLOGS

February 26th 2008, by Jamie Riddell

Twitter & Microblogs

2007 has seen a noticeable growth in 'microblogging' - the art of regular short updates to be read by connected friends. A strong example of this microblogging is Facebook's "is" application where one can tell their friends what they are doing now. The rise also of dedicated tools or channels such as Twitter and Jaiku has also boosted this use of microblogging.

Both Twitter and Jaiku are still early in their growth stages [Hitwise registered less than 0.0015% of traffic share back in March] and neither have yet to hit the 'big time', however they are important channels that need to be understood as part of the growing communication channels online, but also crossing into IM and SMS.

We will be adding more knowledge about Twitter and Jaiku soon, however you can follow Jamie Riddell's Twittering at www.twitter.com/jamieriddell or Jaiku at http://jamieriddell.jaiku.com/.
