TWITTERING FOR FREEDOM
April 29th 2008, by Simon Quance
Interesting story about one of the unseen benefits of Micro Blogging.
US journalism graduate James Karl Buck was arrested for photographing a demonstration in Egypt on April the 10th.
His last act prior to imprisonment was to text an update to his Twitter profile saying "arrested".
His network of "followers" (mostly his friends and fellow students) got the update, immediately rallied round, contacted his College, the US Embassy and a handful of press organisations to highlight his plight.
Within 24 hours he was released.
If proof were needed, here is glowing testimony to how effective mobile micro-blogging can be at raising awareness and sparking word of mouth.
One of the benefits of a truly connected "always on" network.
